The Criminal Appeal Court of Milan confirmed the sentence of six years and six months for Fabio Riva, accused of conspiracy and fraud.

The trial against Fabio Riva concerns an alleged fraud against the state for an amount of around 100 million euros, carried out through obtaining public grants, disbursed by a subsidiary of Cassa depositi e prestiti). According to the indictment, the group of the Riva family unduly obtained public contributions, interposing the Swiss company of the group, Ilva sa, in a series of transactions with Ilva spa.

Riva, at the time of the sentence confirming the conviction, was present in the courtroom. He returned to Italy on 5 June from hiding in London and is currently in prison. The first instance sentence arrived on July XNUMX when Fabio Riva was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

The judges also confirmed the sentences for the other defendants: five years for Alfredo Lo Monaco, director of the Swiss company Eufintrade Sa, and three years for Agostino Alberti, a former manager of the Ilva group. Confirmed the 1,5 million euro fine for the Riva Fire and the total confiscation of 90,8 million euro and a provisional payment of 15 million euro to be paid to the Ministry of Economic Development, the civil party in the proceeding. The reasons will be disclosed within 90 days.
