Ilva, ArcelorMittal: "Ready to start from July XNUMXst"

On Ilva, ArcelorMittal "is ready to close the transaction within the agreed period and be operational from 1 July 2018". This is what we read in a note released by the group at the end of yesterday's meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Luigi Di Maio.

The top management of ArcelorMittal "reaffirmed their commitment to the relaunch of Ilva from an industrial, environmental and social point of view - continues the note - with particular attention to the national and local communities in which the Ilva plants operate, with this underlining the spirit of responsibility that animates the company in assuming the management and ownership of Ilva”.

Furthermore, ArcelorMittal representatives “outlined the environmental, industrial and social commitments and focused on the company's credentials as responsible owner and manager of Ilva, thanks to its expertise acquired in steel production and its experience developed in the management and turnaround of large and complex plants similar to Taranto".

ArcelorMittal “is committed to a total investment of €4,2 billion which includes: more than €1,1 billion in environmental capital to achieve optimal environmental performance in key areas, such as emissions in the atmosphere and water treatment; industrial capital expenditure in excess of €1,2 billion, to make up for delayed maintenance and to carry out a substantial program of investments in blast furnaces and steel production plants, such as the relining of the blast furnace n .5; €1,8 billion consideration for the acquisition”.

The industrial and environmental plans "will be supported by a strong social commitment, aimed at obtaining the best performance in terms of safety, at developing new skills and competences of Ilva's workers and at building lasting cooperation relationships with local institutions and communities surroundings,” the note continues.

The top management of ArcelorMittal "reaffirmed their will and their hope to begin the implementation of these environmental and industrial plans for Ilva as soon as possible, in order to quickly facilitate the relaunch of the latter and in order to offer solutions tangible to the legitimate expectations and concerns of the workers and citizens of Taranto, Genoa, Novi and other production sites. The industrial and environmental plans for Ilva have their roots in ArcelorMittal's many years of experience and are inspired by the most modern and innovative process technologies and the most impactful and advanced environmental procedures".

ArcelorMittal, concludes the note, has therefore "reconfirmed to Minister Di Maio its commitment and its willingness to be operational on site and to start the turnaround of Ilva as soon as possible".
