Minister Savona investigated for bank usury: "Duty act"

The Minister of European Affairs, Paolo Savona, is being investigated in Campobasso for alleged bank usury, i.e. the application of higher interest rates than permitted by law.

The investigation conducted by prosecutor Rossana Venditti also involves 22 other people, i.e. all the managers who held top positions in Unicredit - former Banca di Roma between 2005 and 2013.

As reported by Ansa, which cites legal sources, the name of Savona appears in the deed of the Prosecutor of the Republic of Campobasso relating to the request for extension of the terms of duration of the preliminary investigations (six months) in the investigation relating to the wind farms of Molise, Puglia and Campania. The registration of the minister in the register of suspects, made public by the magistrate's request for extension of the investigations, would be "a duty".

"It is a necessary act as the criminal Cassation requires the heads of the banks to be investigated due to their role of control and guarantee". Thus the lawyer Luigi Iosa, lawyer of the company Engineering srl, alleged victim of bank usury, comments to ANSA on the file opened by the Campobasso prosecutor's office.

The investigation started in 2017 following the complaint presented by Engineering srl, a company headed by the brothers Pietro and Angelo Santoro (former president of ACEM Molise and vice president of the national association of manufacturing construction companies), active in the wind farms.

The other suspects are: Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo, Fabio Gallia, former CEO of Cdp, Aristide Canosani, former mayor of Ravenna and former president of Unicredi, Franco Bellei, former Savings Bank of Modena; Cesare Farsetti, of the board of directors of the agricultural and commercial bank; Luca Majocchi, ex Unicredit- Yellow Pages – Spencer Stuart, Roberto Nicastro, Edoardo Massaglia, Paolo Fiorentino, Alessandro Cataldo, Giovanni Chelo, Dieter Rampl; Giuseppe Vita, Federico Ghizzoni, Francesco Antonio Ricci, Antonio Ciarallo, Adolfo Toti.
