Just one year after the Fukushima disaster, Japan is shaking again. An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, warned in the local late afternoon and with epicenter in the waters of the Pacific off the island of Hokkaido, immediately triggered the tsunami alarm off the North-East.
It was the Japan Meteorological Agency that launched the alert, which was however minimized by the Pacific Center for the tsunami based in Hawaii that a destructive tsunami is not expected across the Pacific. However, the epicenter was located in the Aomori prefecture at a depth of 10 km. No damage or casualties have been reported so far.
Just a few days ago, Japan organized ceremonies in honor of the 19 victims of the disaster a year ago. Emperor Akihito on the occasion recalled that a year after the tragedy the population is still living in difficult conditions.
