Hello world!, information technology from the arithmometer to the smartphone

From 10 October 2019 (on the occasion of the opening of the Internet Festival) until 31 January 2020, at the "Le Benedettine" Congress Center in Pisa, the Hello world! exhibition will be held, on the history of the computer from its origins to the iPhone, promoted from the University of Pisa.

In particular, the fifth section of the exhibition displays some computers designed by Apple from 1974 to 2007, particularly significant for the innovative design that took place under the holistic vision of Steve Jobs. Part of the machines comes from our donation to the Calculus Museum of Pisa and includes the legendary Workstation NeXT (1988-1993) and the legendary Apple Newton (1993-1998).

A real rarity will be available for the entire duration of the Internet Festival: one of the very few examples of the APPLE I, built by Steve Wozniak in Steve Jobs' garage, back in 1974.

Through an interactive narrative path in five sections, the exhibition Hello Word! recounts the evolution of calculating tools, from mechanical machines up to Apple computers, covering a period of time that goes from the second half of the XNUMXth century to the early XNUMXs.

Most of the machines come from the Museum of Calculation Tools (of the University Museum System), known for its very rich collection of machines related to the history of information technology, unique in Italy, including the CEP, the first scientific calculator designed and built in Italy.

Hours: Tuesday-Friday 10.00-19.00, Saturday-Sunday 10.00-20.00 [closed on Mondays] Info and Contacts: informatica50pisa@unipi.it
