They shine in the firmament of Italy's haute cuisine three new stars, have been assigned by2023 edition of the Michelin Guide to Antonio Cannavacciuolo with his restaurant Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio (NO). Cannavacciulo thus becomes part of the Olympus of the three Michelin-starred chefs of Italy sitting next to Piazza Duomo in Alba (CN), Da Vittorio in Brusaporto (BG), St. Hubertus, in San Cassiano (BZ), Le Calandre in Rubano (PD), Dal Pescatore in Canneto Sull'Oglio (MN), Osteria Francescana in Modena, Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, La Pergola in Rome, Reale in Castel di Sangro (AQ), Mauro Uliassi in Senigallia (AN) and Enrico Bartolini at the MUDEC in Milan.

“In the enchanting setting of Lake Orta, inside the Moorish-style historic residence immersed in a centuries-old park – reads the motivation – the path towards this extraordinary success began in 2003 with the assignment of the first MICHELIN star, followed since the assignment of the second in 2006. Sixteen years later, the chef from Campania conquers the 3 MICHELIN stars, recognition reserved for less than 140 restaurants in the world.

Michelin Guide 2023: 38 new stars affected 13 regions

The ceremony, presented by Petra Loreggian and broadcast in live streaming, was a succession of emotions: 38 new stars that involved 13 regions of which 4 new entries in the 2-star category, or restaurants that are worth the detour: Acquolina – Rome 2 stars – chef Daniele Lippi (*Inside the hotel The First Rome – The young Chef offers a cuisine where technique and imagination enhance the raw material in a way that is never banal, but without useless virtuosity. Three tasting menus presenting various visions of the kitchen of the chef at the center of which the Mediterranean dominates, with its products, perfumes and traditions”; Enoteca La Torre – Rome 2 stars – chef Domenico Stile (“The dishes of the Campania chef celebrate creativity with energy, exuberance and the intense flavors typically of the Mediterranean and the Campania tradition. The love for one's territory welcomes tributes to the gastronomic history of the capital and to the great classics of the culinary tradition Italian cuisine for a delicious and varied journey that can also take you beyond the borders of the Bel Paese”); St. George by Heinz Beck – Taormina 2 stars – chef Salvatore Iuliano** (“Whether you let yourself be guided by the two tasting menus or by an à la carte meal, in all the preparations you will find the lightness, signature of the master Heinz Beck and a distinctive trait of the talented Calabrian chef Salvatore Iuliano. In the MICHELIN Italy 2023 Guide they are 33 new items 1 star. Among these, the assignment of 1 star to the Cannavacciuolo Vineyard, a restaurant in Casanova di Terricciola in the province of Pisa, led by the young chef Marco Suriano; the assignment of the star to a vegetarian restaurant, I Tenerumi, a restaurant on the island of Vulcano, which is also awarded the green star for its commitment to more sustainable cuisine.

In total in Italy there are 335 restaurants (33 new) with 1 star, 38 restaurants (4 new) with 2 stars 12 1-star restaurants (3 new) for a total of 385 starred restaurants. The Michelin Guide app will be downloadable for free from 19.30 pm on 8 November. The paper edition will be available in the best bookstores starting from the first week of December.

Michelin Guide 2023: Lombardy maintains its leadership with 59 starred restaurants

The most dynamic regions of this edition are Lombardy with 7 new entries, followed by Tuscany and Sicily with 5 new entries, with the latter rising to 20 starred restaurants (3 2 stars, 17 1 star).

In the ranking of stars by region, Lombardy maintains its leadership thanks to 59 restaurants (3 3 stars 5 2 stars 51 1 star), the Campania is confirmed in second place with 48 restaurantsti, (7 2 stars 41 1 star), sul third step of the podium we find Piedmont with 44 restaurants (2 3 stars 3 2 stars 39 1 star). Tuscany is fourth with 41 restaurants (1 3 stars 5 2 stars 3 51 stars), while Veneto is fifth with 32 restaurants (1 3 stars 4 2 stars 27 1 star) in the guide.

Michelin Guide 2023: Naples has the highest concentration of starred chefs among the Italian provinces

Among the provinces, Naples is confirmed first with 29 restaurants (5 2 stars 24 1 stars), followed by Rome which conquers the second position with 22 restaurants (1 3 stars 3 2 stars 18 1 star) and, therefore, from Bolzano third with 21 restaurants (1 3 stars 3 2 stars 17 1 star) ahead of Milan with 17 starred restaurants (1 3 stars 3 2 stars 13 1 star). Cuneo slips into fifth position with 15 (1 3 stars 1 2 stars 13 1 star).

In the ranking of Bib Gourmands by region, Emilia-Romagna is confirmed in first place with 32 restaurants. Behind it, Lombardy (30 restaurants) rises to second place overtaking Piedmont (29 restaurants), while fourth and fifth place are respectively confirmed by Tuscany, with 25 Bib Gourmands, and Veneto with 22.
