Gubitosi, Rai CEO: "I only want a fixed-term contract"

It is a decision that will make Luigi Gubitosi's one speak. The new general director of Rai has in fact requested a fixed-term contract, thus renouncing the permanent position, as usual.

The former Wind manager justified this request by calling it "a sign of attention and responsibility", in detail the contract would have a duration of three years, the same duration as the board of directors, "since I have no intention of remaining at Rai for one more day nor a day short of my mandate as general manager,” added Gubitosi.

This decision comes following a trail of controversy. A contract worth 650 thousand euros per year for an indefinite period had the flavor of "a slap in the face to the Italians" in time of spending review, this is the criticism raised by some directors of the board of directors. To appease the discontent, the new president Anna Maria Tarantola also announced a cut in her salary.

The news was not received with unanimous judgments: reservations and applause at the same time. The group leader of Italia dei Valori underlines how Gubitosi's choice was not spontaneous but forced by numerous criticisms. An opinion also shared by Giorgio Merlo, Pd, Vice President of the Supervision Commission, and Carlo Rienzi, president of Codacons.

On the other hand, Usigrai's comment was positive, as through his secretary Carlo Verna he defined the move by the general director of Rai as "an intelligent and responsible choice, the permanent contract would have meant, at the end of the mandate, a burden for a company already in trouble.
