Gros-Pietro: "Intesa has spent a billion to save other banks"

“We have spent over a billion to save the other banks”. She said it the president of Intesa Sanpaolo, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, during the presentation of the 2017 survey on the savings of Italians carried out with Centro Einaudi, from which it emerged, among other things, that Banca Intesa alone collected 14 billion in asset management products in the first seven months of 2017: "The figure half-yearly report sees an increase of more than double in assets under management: in the first six months it rose to 10,3 billion euro compared to 4 billion in the same period of 2016”.

“Banks are the bulwark in protecting savings – explained Gros-Pietro -. Let me tell you from a bank presidency that in the last couple of years has spent more than a billion to remedy the holes that have been created in other banks in the country, through partly mandatory and partly voluntary interventions to protect savers who had deposited their savings in banks which were then unable to return them".

Gros-Pietro also spoke of Intesa Sanpaolo's new business plan, currently under preparation, which it will “certainly” be focused on organic growth, though “without neglecting the opportunities that may arise. Then we are reflecting in the board of directors on the basis of the solicitations that come to us from the CEO Carlo Messina and therefore I cannot add anything else”, he noted.

Intesa, underlined Gros-Pietro anyway, it will remain essentially a bank with a national vocation, even if the strengthening on foreign markets should not be ignored: "We are mainly an Italian bank and our commitment to support the economy also demonstrates this - he explained - however we are also increasing our presence abroad which is above all in support of groups Italians who export but also contributes positively to the group's profitability”.
