Government: ok to the constitutional bill to cancel the provinces

The bill approved by the Council of Ministers "repeals the term Provinces from the Constitution", and Letta hopes that Parliament will approve it "as soon as possible. The invitation is to take into account the urgency", also because "together with this provision on the abolition of the Provinces, other measures will have to be taken: we must safeguard the workers".

Government: ok to the constitutional bill to cancel the provinces

“Today we approved a constitutional bill that abolishes the provinces. It is essential to then enable ordinary laws to be passed to ensure that the related powers end up in the right places”. This was announced by Prime Minister Enrico Letta in the press conference at the end of the council of ministers.

In particular, article 3 of the constitutional bill on the abolition of the Provinces contains a transitional provision which "refers to an ordinary law" which will allow "the exercise of the functions which today are in the hands of the Provinces", specified the Premier .

The bill approved by the Council of Ministers "repeals the term Provinces from the Constitution”, and Letta hopes that Parliament will approve it “as soon as possible. The invitation is to take into account the urgency", also because "together with this provision on the abolition of the Provinces, other measures will have to be taken: we must safeguard the workers who carry out those functions".

“This issue certainly creates an attitude of distrust in decision-making processes in public opinion – admitted the Prime Minister -. Too many times in recent years the supersession and repeal have been announced, but as long as the word Provinces remains in the Constitution, any intervention ends up being a dead end. We felt it was necessary to stop, start over and above all in the right order”.

As for the establishment of the "Colleges of Autonomies", Letta lets it be known that it is "completely invented, unfounded news. The news that appeared on the sites is part of a disinformation mechanism that is sometimes triggered. There is no reference to colleges in the government text. Those sites perform a public service, they are connected to important newspapers and therefore they must examine their conscience, be careful to distinguish between news and rumors that are not even proposed".
