Generali focuses on e-commerce: agreement in Argentina

Generali focuses on South American e-commerce and becomes the first company to experiment with this new sales channel. The insurance company led by Philippe Donnet, through its Argentine subsidiary La Caja, has signed a distribution agreement with Mercado Libre, the largest e-commerce operator in South America, which concerns in particular non-life insurance.

"The initiative represents a further step in Generali's partnership with Mercado Libre, born in 2011 and characterized by the development of innovative and highly successful formats for customers", comments the company in a note.

Going into details, the agreement provides that the customers of Mercato Libre have the possibility of make estimates and take out La Caja car and home insurance policies by accessing the Mercado Libre digital platform. A solution that will enrich the company's distribution channels, strengthening "the path of digital transformation". Until now, in fact, Generali sold its products through the classic channels: mobile app, website, direct telephone assistance, 64 physical agencies.

Jaime Anchústegui, CEO International of Generali, stated: “The initiative falls within the scope of the Generali group's new strategy of developing innovative B2B2C distribution models, opening up new contact channels for customers. The agreement with Mercado Libre also makes it possible to strengthen the company's digital transformation path, becoming the first on the market to experiment with this new channel."

However, the one arriving from Argentina is not the only news today for Generali. According to what can be inferred from the internal dealing communications of Borsa Italiana, Renzo Pellicioli, member of the board of directors of Generali and managing director of De Agostini spa, on 2 December last he sold debt instruments of the Leone with three separate transactions involving securities denominated in euros and in pounds sterling for the total equivalent of almost 780 thousand euros. The operation took place both on the Bloomberg Trading Facility circuits and on those of Euro Tlx.

At Piazza Affari, the general title earns 0,5% to 18,36 euros.
