Database theft, 800 thousand profiles in the dossiers: for the hackers a loot of 3 million euros. Who are the politicians spied on

Database theft e dossierage: the preliminary hearings of the six people subject to a precautionary measure, four of whom ended up under house arrest, are scheduled for Thursday 31 October before the investigating judge of Milan Fabrizio Filice. as part of the investigations on an alleged network of “spies”. Therefore, on Thursday, barring a change of program, the following will appear before the judge: former super cop Carmine Gallo as CEO of the Equalize Srl and the technicians of his team, Nuncio Samuele Calamucci, Massimiliano Camponovo e Julius Cornelli. Among the accusations, to varying degrees, criminal association aimed at unauthorized access to a computer system, corruption, abusive interception e revelation of official secrecy.

Database theft, who was targeted

“These are subjects who represent a danger for democracy of the country". This was written by the Milan prosecutor Francesco De Tommasi in the documents of the investigation into the group that fabricated dossiers and enjoyed "support in various circles, including that of mafia crime and services“. One of those arrested, Calamucci, allegedly sent an email from an account “registered in the name of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, with name and surname". The group's sights apparently also included the President of the Senate, among others Ignazio La Russa and son GeronimoThe gang had “classified” documents and may have sold data abroad. Political reactions? Tensions are very high. The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni he said: "In the worst case scenario we are faced with the crime of subversion, no state of law can tolerate it". For the Alloy we need to increase the penalties for spies. The minister Crying himself he concludes: “Specialists are already working to protect state structures”. According to Crosetto it is necessary to "understand if there is a common thread in the dossiers". Pd asks that Meloni report to the Chambers.

Equalize: Hackers' Loot and an Archive of 800 Data

In the hacker archive 800 thousand data. Telegram chats and other messages to be deleted, but above all – as the magistrates note – an “immense mass” of confidential information, extracted by “hacking” the most important national databases, to be transferred elsewhere and destroyed only in extreme cases. “Eight hundred thousand Sdi, I have them over there,” Calamucci said when intercepted last January with Gallo, referring to a “hard disk” and the unauthorized access to the database of police.

Not only that. In fact, it is calculated in a sum higher than 3 million euros the illicit profit collected by the defendants through dossier activities. For the company equalize, the focal point of the story, a few steps from the Duomo of Milan, the profit in 2022, 2023, 2024, would be 2.332.074 euros; for the other companies (Mercury, Dag, Safe Harbour, Neis Agency) the amount would be lower. The total figure would therefore amount to just over 3 million.

Database theft: the platform in the crosshairs and the idea of selling it to the League

Is called Beyond the jewel of Equalize, the investigative company at the center of the investigation by the Milan prosecutor's office into illegal dossiers. It is a platform that aggregates content from different sources, both legal and illegal. And one of the suspects also wanted propose to sell to the League. The investigators write that Beyond "has the ability to exploit, integrate and assemble information marketed by third-party companies such as Infocamere, Cerved and others as well as that available on publicly accessible databases and aggregators, such as for example the half-yearly reports of the DIA or certain newspapers". But, beyond this apparent regularity, the platform is integrated with "highly confidential and sensitive information, extrapolated from national strategic databases", through theunauthorized access to the Sdi, the inter-force database of the Ministry of the Interior, which allows you to consult not only the data entered by the police forces but also others such as Inps, Punto Fisco, Serpico. And here the "laundry" operation of Equalize starts, which cleans illegally acquired information from formatting and source metadata and inserts them into disguised reports to avoid being discovered. Beyond, therefore, performs "a cover function to hide, even from customers, the nature (sensitive and confidential) and the illicit origin of part of the information included in the reports", as stated in the order of the Milanese investigating judge.

Pazzali and the attempt to hook the Amazon manager

From Henry Pazzali, Chairman of the Fair Foundation and at the head of the company Equalize, according to the documents of the investigation into the alleged illegal dossiers, there is also what would appear to be an attempt to hook up with the Amazon Manager for Italy and Spain, Mariangela Marseglia.

Database theft, alleged dossiers on Russian citizens

Meanwhile, in the documents of the investigation by the Milan DDA into the gang of cyber-spies, alleged dossiers also emerge on Russian citizens. Calamucci, a hacker from the group, was intercepted and spoke of a “report” on a “famous Russian oligarch” and in other passages the prosecutors write that they tried to ascertain the identity of the Russian and the only element is “a case involving Russian-Kazakh citizens (Victor Kharitonin and Alexandrovich Toporov)” and “the construction of a hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the management of several luxury resorts”. An unauthorized access, then, would have involved Vladimir Tsyganov and Oxana Bondarenko, active in the fashion sector.

Database theft, Renzi civil party

While in, Matteo Renzi – also he, according to the investigation documents, among the victims of the dossier – has instructed his lawyers to turn themselves in civil party in all proceedings related to espionage and illegitimate publication of illegally acquired documents. This was announced by the press office of the leader of Italia Viva. The former prime minister, we read in a note, "will prepare a parliamentary question in the coming days to find out what the National Cybersecurity Agency is doing to defend the inviolable rights of Italian citizens enshrined in the Constitution and denied by criminal acts of espionage".
