The socialist party wins in the second round of the legislative elections obtaining an absolute majority in Parliament: the president François Hollande will thus be able to govern without having to mediate with the extreme left.
However, Ségolène Royal is defeated and failed to win the seat of Larochelle. Francois Hollande's ex-companion, who was aiming for president of the National Assembly, would have been defeated by the socialist candidate Olivier Falorni who would have collected 55% against Royal's 45%. The leader Front national, Marine Le Pen Marine Le Pen, is also out, beaten in Henin-Beaumont, where Philippe Kemel would have triumphed. But his party will have representatives in the National Assembly, from which it has been absent since 1988.
