Per-Anders Pettersson, award-winning Swedish photographer, tells a new and unexpected vision of the African continent. For the first time, the backstage of emerging African fashion is exclusively documented. The images in this series were taken in fifteen different African countries between 2010 and 2015 and reveal an unexpected aspect of the African continent. African Catwalk, Pettersson's "African catwalk" not only overcomes the stereotypes of African fashion which usually includes animal prints and ethnic designs, but also confronts our "Western gaze", almost a "distorted perception" in which Africa does not is that a continent ravaged by rampant wars, poverty, disease, and ethnic strife.

In Congo, Nigeria and Ghana, “Men know very well how to dress,” says photographer Per-Anders Pettersson. For many years Per-Anders worked in South Africa, where he covered political rallies in a fledgling democracy, when he sensed that the parades were becoming popular with an emerging black middle class and elite.

Now his images bear witness to the new African fashion scene. Pettersson has been a photographer and spectator since 2009 when his obsession with African fashion was born in Johannesburg.

Per-Anders Pettersson (1967) is a Swedish photographer based in Cape Town in South Africa. He has documented extraordinary events and international news: famine in Ethiopia, civil wars in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Botswana and South Africa. His images have won the most important prizes and awards: World Press Photo, PDN, POY, NPPA, CARE,
CHIP, Unicef ​​Photo of the Year, American Photography, Commarts. You have exhibited all over the world and in 2013 published “Rainbow Transit”, a book on democracy in South Africa.
