“Looking at the numbers of our event, one is struck by the quantity of proposals that are offered. We always intend to propose some important innovations: participation in the SaloneSatellite within the Salone del Mobile and the strong involvement of Pavia. This underlines our role which is not only that of accepting the proposals of others but of being first-person promoters and organizers of a growing number of exhibitions and initiatives. Finally, we pursue our cultural policy with determination by bringing authors and proposals of absolute value to the peripheral areas of the city in the awareness that it is photography, an intrinsically democratic discipline, that must approach its public", he explained Roberto Mutti, artistic director of Photofestival.

Among the artists, personalities of the caliber of will participate in the event Don McCullin, Fosco Maraini, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Oliviero Toscani, Gian Butturini, Bob Krieger, Vincenzo Castella, Giuliana Traverso, Christopher Broadbent.

Noteworthy is the presence of 44 photographers need  10 foreign authors, Among which Trevor Cole, a photographer exhibiting for the first time in Italy and to whom Photofestival looks closely.

In the year in which Milan celebrates the 500th anniversary of Leonardo's death and hosts the XXII International Exhibition of the Triennale, the 2019 edition of Photofestival - entitled Images. Projects. Future. - pays homage to the theme of design and part of the photographic proposal of the review revolves around it, as reported in the official press release of the festival.

“Photofestival 2019, again a record-breaking edition, was created to speak ever more directly to a varied and international audience and reaffirms its DNA as an event spread throughout the territory and beyond, reaching Pavia with 15 exhibitions for the first time in its history. We propose a program of great value with images of established authors and with many newcomers, we touch new areas of interest, talking about current projects and themes and such as to excite our memory but also to talk about our future. The project is increasingly solid and structured by themes - from homage to design to social commitment and experimentation - capable of involving new generations and also young people and families, thanks to dedicated workshops", he declared John Augusti, President of AIF – Italian Photo & Digital Imaging Association.

The festival was born in the early 2000s as a biennial review, while since 2007 it has taken on an annual basis, a choice that has helped to make it more famous and to allow the festival to establish itself as one of the reference events in the Milanese panorama of art photography and between major cultural events on the Italian scene, as stated on the official website of the event.

The exhibitions created during the event were over 1.200 and involved 987 Italian and foreign authors and 618 exhibition spaces between art galleries, museums, libraries, bookshops, schools, historic buildings, institutional places and private spaces.

The path of photo festival – now in its fourteenth edition – is widespread in the area, covering the entire metropolitan city of Milan up to touching some neighboring cities such as Legnano and Pavia, where a satellite festival is planned this year which is divided into 15 exhibitions.
