Fitch threatens the US: "Without a debt agreement, triple A will be eliminated"

"A failure to raise the debt limit in time will lead to a formal review of the US credit rating." The threat, not so veiled, is contained in a note released by Fitch: the rating agency, therefore, if Congress does not find an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, could cut the rating of the US, taking away the triple A.

Fitch, however, also stressed that the chances of a default by the United States remain "extremely weak" at the moment.
