Philippines, companies fleeing the chaos of Manila

The expansion of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies in many urban conglomerates outside the city of Manila could lead to the relief of congestion in the Philippine capital. Real estate company Kmc Mag notes that there is a growing demand for site expansion outside Greater Manila, mainly to combat the worrying phenomenon of "attrition" which reaches up to 100% in some companies.

“There are workplaces here in Manila where thousands of employees quit every month,” explains Gerold Fernando, Associate Director of KMC MAG. "If you put offices closer to where people live these percentages can drop dramatically."

Among the places around metropolitan Manila that could benefit from the relocations are Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga, Bulacan and even Clark. In the Visayas region the satellite cities will likely be Iloilo and Bacolod.

“The expansion of new urban centers promotes the decongestion of the capital and improves the economy of the suburbs. It also actually increases the average income of workers. In short, it is a win-win situation” continues Fernando. The new challenge will now be, according to KMC MAG, to make these new locations attractive to foreign investors, providing quality spaces for offices.
