Fiat aims to sell 100 units in China in 2013 thanks to its joint venture with local manufacturer Guangzhou, Gac Fiat Automobile. In an interview with the Bloomberg agency Jack Cheng, general manager of Gac Fiat, said that "there is a possibility" to increase the cars produced locally to 200 units in 2014.
Gac Fiat will start producing Jeep models in a year and a half to two yearsCheng said. The joint venture has signed agreements to be represented by 91 dealerships in China, which it aims to increase to 125 by the end of the year and 150-200 by the end of 2013. Gac Fiat was created in March 2010 and has a plant in Hunan province, in Changsha. The joint venture intends to sell its first domestically assembled model, the 'Viaggio' sedan, from the third quarter of this year.
