Fiat shelved "Fabbrica Italia": it was not an absolute commitment and the market has changed

For the Lingotto the project of two and a half years ago was not "an absolute commitment" but now the market has changed and it is impossible to refer to that project again - Fiat does not forget the importance of Italy and Europe but it is a multinational that wants to move in a "rational and autonomous" way in the choice of its investments.

Fiat shelved "Fabbrica Italia": it was not an absolute commitment and the market has changed

Fabbrica Italia is not an "absolute commitment" by Fiat and the project is now two and a half years old, also because the car market has collapsed. This was stated by Lingotto, after some "concerned" statements by representatives of the political and trade union world.

In a note dated 27 October 2011, recalls Fiat, the company "announced that it would no longer use the term 'Fabbrica Italia' because many had interpreted it as an absolute commitment by the company while instead it was an initiative of the entirely autonomous, which did not include, among other things, any public incentives”.

“Since Fabbrica Italia was announced in April 2010 – adds Lingotto – things have changed profoundly. The car market in Europe has entered a serious crisis and the Italian one has collapsed to the levels of the seventies. It is therefore impossible to refer to a project born two and a half years ago. It is in fact necessary – concludes Fiat – that the product plan and the related investments are subject to constant review to adapt them to market trends”.
