Planned interventions in the provinces of Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia to encourage the sustainable use of local public transport through the electrification of the lines and an improvement of accessibility in the stations

Emilia Romagna railways: 40 million Cdp to Fer for the upgrading of the regional railway network

Deposits and Loans Fundti (CDP) has signed a financing agreement of 40 million euros in favor of IRON (Ferrovie Emilia Romagna), a company of the Emilia-Romagna Region which manages over 300 kilometers of the entire regional railway network.

The aim of the agreement is to encourage sustainable use of public transport by strengthening connections between small urban centres.

Indeed, CDP has identified as a priority themodernization of networks, with the aim of reducing journey times and guaranteeing the safety of the infrastructures. Priority too development of urban mobility and local public transport (Tpl) to facilitate the transition from private to public transport.

The operation confirms the CDP role like lender long term to falongside public bodies.

The main interventions on the railway network

The investment is intended for network enhancement in several province regional. Among the main interventions there will be:

  • the complete electrification of the Parma-Suzzara-Poggio Rusco line and the Sassuolo-Reggio Emilia-Guastalla line,
  • the suppression of two level crossings in Sassuolo and Modena
  • the reconstruction of the rail level (replacement of the rails, switches and sleepers) of the Scandiano station (RE)
  • the reconstruction of the railway bridge over the Trigolaro of the Suzzana-Ferrara line

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti: all the priorities envisaged

Through their skills, CDP wants to be a point of reference for public entities to promote and accelerate the development of the territory, exploiting the levers of innovation and sustainability” he declared Exedra Chiacchella, Head of Public Administration of CDP.
