Mid-August in Rome: museums, cinemas and shows at the Imperial Forums

On Tuesday 15 August the Museums in the Municipality of Rome will observe the usual opening hours. Also during the day of August, therefore, it will be possible to visit the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions and, in the evening, participate in the numerous events of the Roman summer.

THE GREAT EXHIBITIONS

The Capitoline Museums host for the first time the Madonna by Pintoricchio, believed by Vasari to be the portrait of Giulia Farnese, lover of Pope Alexander VI Borgia, next to the better known Child Jesus of the hands in the exhibition Pintoricchio painter of the Borgias. Corso Spartaco is in progress at the Ara Pacis Museum. Slaves and masters in Rome, an exhibition that investigates the reality of slavery in the daily life and economy of imperial Rome.

Inside Trajan's Markets, the exhibition I Fori dopo i Fori illustrates the events of the archaeological area of ​​the Imperial Forums through the findings of the excavations of the last 25 years.

At the Museum of Rome in Palazzo Braschi in the rooms on the ground floor CONTACT. Feel the painting with your hands. Caravaggio, Raphael, Correggio in a tactile experience. Four pictorial masterpieces are presented in the form of reliefs, to allow the public to discover a two-dimensional work through tactile and non-visual experience. On the first floor Piranesi. The factory of utopia, a wide selection of the most significant works of the great Venetian artist, extraordinary etching engraver and central figure for the figurative culture of the European eighteenth century.

At the Gallery of Modern Art Artist's rooms. Masterpieces of the Italian 900th century: not only ideal places but real rooms in which the art of the first half of the twentieth century is told by twelve of its greatest exponents: Mario Sironi, Arturo Martini, Ferruccio Ferrazzi, Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio, Carlo Carrà , Ardengo Soffici, Ottone Rosai, Massimo Campigli, Marino Marini, Fausto Pirandello and Scipione.

SMALL EXHIBITIONS NOT TO BE MISSED

At the Museum of Rome in Trastevere the photos of the urban planner, historian, author of "Modern Rome", Italo Insolera: the black and white of the cities, Images 1951-84 and OSTKREUZ. The exhibition of the German photo agency, the retrospective tells the story of the OSTKREUZ agency, founded in 1990 by East German photographers and today the most famous photographic collective in Germany. On display are over 250 photographs by 22 photographers, from the works immediately following the collapse of the Wall up to the present day.

At the Napoleonic Museum Minute visions. Roman micromosaics from the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries from the Ars Antiqua Savelli collection, one of the most important internationally dedicated to this particular artistic genre, the result of over forty years of acquisitions and research.

At the Centrale Montemartini, in addition to the magnificent permanent collection, you can admire the train of Pius IX built in 1858 by the railway companies "Pio Centrale" and "Pio Latina", which commissioned it from French companies as a gift to the pontiff.

At the Museum of Ancient Sculpture Giovanni Barracco In the shadow of the pyramids. The mastaba of the dignitary Nefer, the very precious funerary relief of the dignitary Nefer, datable to the reign of the pharaoh Cheops: a 1:1 reconstruction of the structure of the funerary chapel and a very rich graphic, photographic and multimedia documentation to describe its internal space.

At the Carlo Bilotti Markku Piri Museum. Glass & Paintings. A Finn at the Villa Borghese Orangery: on display glass objects made in collaboration with Finnish artisans and/or Murano glass masters, associated with paintings and screen prints by Piri, and with printed fabrics having themes and motifs linked to Finland. Silvia Codignola. Autobiography of the mother, on the other hand, presents tempera and oil paintings, some drawings and sculptures in plaster, all of small and medium dimensions, made over the decade 2006/2016.

At the Civic Museum of Zoology Surfaces. Entomological wanderings offers a visual journey to explore, through photography, the surface of the body of beetles, a group of insects whose main characteristic is that of having the first pair of wings rigid and often very colourful, but above all rich in particular structures and shapes which can only be discovered through the use of a microscope.

At the Casino dei Principi in Villa Torlonia Magic of light. Mirror and symbol in the work of Lorenzo Ostuni and in the nearby Casina delle Civette two exhibitions: The wonderful world of Wal. Fantastic sculptures, magical animals and where to look for them – personal exhibition of Walter Guidobaldi aka Wal, one of the most original exponents of the Nuovi-nuovo patrol organized in 1980 by Renato Barilli – and Lo chat noir and the shadow theaters in Paris. Influence on illustrative art between the 800s and 900s, one of the period collections of the Parisian Museum in Rome which presents a remarkable collection of images dedicated to the "silhouettes" that animated the scenes for years before the advent of cinema.

CURRENT EVENTS

And, for the evening of August 9th, the city offers many events dedicated to theater, cinema and entertainment, such as that of the Silvano Toti Globe Theater, A Midsummer Night's Dream, signed by the unforgettable Riccardo Cavallo ( translation by Simonetta Traversetti) which this year is on stage from 20 to 21.15 August at XNUMX. A story that continues to make adults and children dream, telling the short time of happiness with a subtle melancholy undertone.
