VAT and fuel will cost every Italian family 842 euros a year. The estimate, based on the calculation of the possible impact of the super VAT and the excise tax on fuel, is by the National Observatory of Federconsumatori which has therefore calculated a sting in the event that the necessary coverage is not found to implement the proposed operations in the law of stability.
The safeguard clause, according to calculations by the consumers' association, in fact provides for a possible increase in VAT from 10 to 12% in 2016, to 13% in 2017 and from 22 to 24% in 2016, to 25% in 2017 and to 25,5% in 2018. According to the calculations made by the Observatory, the greatest expense would be 266 euros with the passage of VAT from 10% to 13% and 461,18 euros more for the passage from 22% to 25,5%.
An increase of 28 euros would also be due to the direct effects due to the increase in excise duties on fuel (when fully operational) and another 87 euros to the indirect effects of the increase in VAT on gas, electricity + excise duties on fuel (which affect of production and transport costs) when fully operational.
