Nibali like Juve. He starts the Giro very badly, he even risks retiring and then he wins it big in the Alps by snatching the pink jersey from the shoulders of the friendly Colombian Esteban Chaves and winning his second Giro d'Italia which will end tomorrow with the catwalk from Sant'Anna di Vinadio in Turin.
Nibali regained his victory in the Alps: yesterday he won the stage and today he launched the attack on Chaves at the crucial moment (on the third col), recovering the 44″ gap he accused against Chaves and then detaching him in the standings by 52″ ″ and winning the round. The stage victory in Sant'Anna di Vinadio went instead to the Estonian Taraamae.
"All thanks to the team" said Nibali but he did his part. If Nibali is the great winner of the Giro, Chaves, who is in second place ahead of the Spaniard Valverde, is somehow the moral winner. Nine doctors claimed three years ago that Chaves would never be able to race again and instead he denied them with pride and a smile. “Nibali was stronger but life is more important than the Giro and I'm happy with what I did” commented Chaves.
The compliments and hugs between Nibali and Chaves' family were moving, and they were the first to congratulate the Italian champion with tears in their eyes. Now that's a great sports lesson.
