Facebook and Instagram down for an hour

From 7.15 to 8.05 a malfunction hit the social network and the photo editing app, both owned by Zuckerberg – And the web went wild.

Facebook and Instagram down for an hour

There is perhaps a hacker attack behind the malfunction that blacked out Facebook and Instagram for about an hour this morning. The problem has also affected Italian users.

From 7.15 to 8.05 those who tried to connect to Mark Zuckerberg's social network found this message: "Sorry, something went wrong", sorry, something went wrong.

"We are aware of the malfunction and are working to fix it," wrote the photo-editing app, also owned by Zuckerberg, on Twitter.

At the moment, the two companies have not confirmed or denied the rumors about the reasons for the malfunction. In the absence of official explanations, rumors of an alleged hacking attack have been circulating on the web.

Meanwhile, the hashtag #facebookdown has reappeared on Twitter.

Facebook's last block dates back to September, when the platform stopped twice in a month, while Instagram's last tilt dates back to August. No problem however for WhatsApp, the other jewel of Zuckerberg.

UPDATE 13.30

“The outage wasn't the result of an outside attack, but it occurred after we introduced a system configuration change,” a Facebook spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal, explaining that the company “moved quickly to fix the problem and the service is 100% available to everyone again.”
