La Spain confirms itself as the fourth destination market forItalian export, after Germany, France and the United States, with a value of almost 33 billion euros in 2023, equal to 5,25% of the total exported in the world. Italy, in turn, ranks fourth among Spain's foreign suppliers, with a share of 7,4%, preceded only by Germany, France and China. Export, Spain strategic partner for Italy: the data

I data collected confirm the solidity of the economic relations between the two countries and are particularly significant when compared with the global trend: in 2023, Italian exports to the world remained unchanged at 626 billion, while the sales to Spain they grew by 2,1%. The Belpaese's performance as a supplier is more than double that of the rest of the world, where Italy is positioned as the ninth exporter with a share of 2,9%.

Among the Italian products most exported to Spain in 2023 we find:

  • Agri-food
  • Machinery
  • Means of transport
  • Fashion
  • Telecommunications equipment
  • Chemical products
  • Plastic and rubber
  • Car components
  • Metals.

The allocations of the European "Next Generation Eu" plan, of which Italy and Spain are among the first beneficiaries, open up new growth opportunities in strategic sectors such as:

  • Digitization: development of digital infrastructures and innovative technologies.
  • Energy efficiency: promotion of technologies and solutions for efficient use of energy.
  • Renewables: development of plants for the production of energy from renewable sources.
  • Mobilita sostenibile: incentives for the use of sustainable means of transport.
  • E-commerce: growth of online commerce and development of new digital platforms.
  • Water treatment and management: technologies for the sustainable management of water resources.

Also worth highlighting is the constant growth of mutual investments between Rome and Madrid, whose overall stock has reached almost 68 billion (of which 46 billion of Italian investments in Spain and 22 billion of Spanish investments in Italy). The Italian entrepreneurial presence, in fact, is very substantial: over 2.000 Italian companies operate in the Iberian country led by Pedro Sanchez (in the picture, ed), with a workforce of 84 thousand employees and an overall annual turnover of almost 42 billion.
