Eurozone, slight recovery of GDP and inflation

Growth improves in the third quarter, while prices rise in October: deflation is receding, but the ECB's target remains a mirage.

Eurozone, slight recovery of GDP and inflation

After the disappointing data Italy and encouraging ones of Germany and France, the numbers also arrive on the GDP of the entire Eurozone. According to preliminary estimates published this morning by Eurostat, in the third quarter the economy of the currency area made a slight recovery, achieving a 0,2% growth compared to the April-June period. The result is better than the +0,1% of the second quarter, but still lower than the +0,3% of the first quarter of 2014.

As regards the comparison on an annual basis, between July and September the GDP of Euroland rose by Present in several = 0,8%, an increase similar to that of the second quarter, but less than the +1% recorded between January and March.

Also on the side ofinflation there are signs of a slight recovery in the currency area. Again according to Eurostat calculations – but in this case they are definitive data – in October the growth rate of prices stood at 0,4% on an annual basis, against +0,3% in September.

It should be emphasized that the inflation target set by the ECB is still very far away: statute in hand, in fact, the first objective of the Eurotower is to guarantee price stability, quantified in a growth lower than but close to 2% per annum.
