Eurozone accelerates: fourth quarter GDP +0,3%, Italy stops recession +0,1%

In the comparison on an annual basis, growth in the euro area returned to positive with +0,5%, from -0,3% recorded in the second quarter.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, Eurozone GDP increased by 0,3% compared to the previous three months, from +0,1% in the third quarter. The data, reported by Eurostat with a first update, corresponds to that indicated in the preliminary estimate. Meanwhile, Italy has returned to recording a positive value after a prolonged phase of recession, although GDP growth was limited to 0,1%.

In the comparison on an annual basis, growth in the euro area returned to positive with +0,5%, from -0,3% recorded in the second quarter. In Italy, however, it continued to move in negative territory with -0,8%, but in this case the contraction was more than halved compared to -1,9% in the previous three months.
