A report by Fulvio Coltorti (head of the Mediobanca Historical Archive "Vincenzo Maranghi") made known – in a conference promoted in Como by Mediobanca – that interesting but little-known character who was Eugenio Rosasco, first president of the Milanese merchant bank . Rosasco was a character strongly linked to the Como economy, but at the same time with an international standing thanks to his numerous interventions at conferences and exhibitions abroad. Silky industrialist, owner with his brother of a company inherited from his father Enrico, in which he lavished innovations and commercial dynamism, he stood out for his anti-fascism which made him the ideal companion of personalities such as Raffaele Mattioli, Adolfo Tino and Enrico Cuccia. Rosasco held the presidency in the first 12 years of Mediobanca sharing all the operations that arose from the imagination of the young Enrico Cuccia, demonstrating the great seriousness and effectiveness of Mediobanca's work. Of that period Mediobanca should be noted for its streamlined but at the same time highly skilled organization, the fine-tuning of a credit granting methodology which is unique in the banking history of our country and perhaps not only (losses equal to 0,001% of the amounts disbursed), the creation of "new ventures" typical of investment banks (including merchant banks and trading companies operating above all with Africa), the stipulation of agreements with prestigious international partners who in the following years will accompany the future of the institute in via Filodrammatici.
The conference, full of numerous interventions, was also an opportunity to present a beautiful book with the history of the Rosasco company, the Enrico Rosasco mechanical silk weaving, created by students and teachers of the ISIS Paolo Carcano School thanks to the documentary sources preserved at the archive of the Silk Museum of Como (the electronic version of the book can be downloaded from the Mediobanca Historical Archive website).
