The Eni refinery in Gela goes green. In fact, the Italian energy giant has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development for the green conversion of the Sicilian refinery. A conversion that will transform the site into a biorefinery and a logistics base for on and offshore as well as a high-level center for safety in the biofuel sector. Furthermore, as stated in the note released by the ministry, the plan also provides for the guarantee of the maintenance of all jobs.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday evening, upon signing the text - filed down to the last minute - all the parties involved in the long dispute: the Region of Sicily with the President Rosario Crocetta, the Mayor of Gela Angelo Fasulo, ENI with the Chief Down Stream & Industrial Operations Officer Salvatore Sardo and the President of the Gela Refinery Claudio Zacchigna, Confindustria Sicilia, the national and local trade union organizations of chemists and the Rsu. in the presence of the CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi, by Minister Federica Guidi and Deputy Minister Claudio De Vincenti.

Descalzi expressed all his satisfaction with an agreement that places Gela "at the center of our industrial system, with an economically sustainable development plan capable of guaranteeing solid employment prospects for the area", while Minister Guidi thanked the company and the trade unions for the responsibility demonstrated.

Further news for Eni comes from the agreement reached between the subsidiary Versalis and Solazyme, a company that produces oil from renewable sources and bioproducts. The two companies have announced the launch of a partnership to increase the marketing of the biodegradable lubricant Encapso, whose use Versalis will promote in the oil and gas fields managed by Eni.
