Energy: Mise celebrates 60 years of mining in Italy

From the Supercortemaggiore to the gas in the Po Valley, to the SEN of our days: Italy has important hydrocarbon reserves and celebrated their history, at the Ministry of Development (MISE), recalling the 60 years since the Unmig was established, the direction of the Ministry of Development (at the time Ministry of Industry) which followed its growth and development step by step.

  "Today we recall the history of mining and energy activities in our country - said Deputy Minister Teresa Bellanova -, a history written by women and men who, with their professionalism and sense of the state, have contributed and contribute to the economic and social development of the 'Italy. TOWe are now facing a different scenario, outlined by the new National Energy Strategy, in which it is necessary to rethink development policies in terms of environmental recovery and circular economy: also in this context these professionals will find adequate valorisation, so that the energy transition can be supported by the utmost attention to the safety of people and the environment, by the valorisation of existing skills in the territories, by the safeguarding of employment and by an efficient use of know-how technological how available today”.

For the occasion, the General Directorate for Safety, including Environmental, Mining and Energy Activities (DGS UNMIG) presented the volume UNMIG 1957-2017. "A publication born from the will of the protagonists of this story to tell the most significant moments to facilitate understanding of the transformations that have marked the evolution and innovation of an important articulation of the Italian industrial system - the hydrocarbons and connected technologies” said Ombretta Coppi, head of the cartography office of the DGS-UNMIG, from which the idea of ​​the publication was born.

Franco Terlizzese, director general of the DGS UNMIG, highlighted that from the historical reconstruction of its 60 years a leading role emerges for UNMIG in ensuring the government of a growing complexity of the context and expectations, as well as promoter of safety standards in upstream activities with which Italy contributes to the security of the Mediterranean and represents a virtuous example for many other countries in the world.

Italy's active participation in European and international forums dedicated to the sea has enabled our country to play a recognized role as a leader in marine policies.

Gilberto Dialuce, director general of the DGSAIE, recalled the importance of the collaboration of UNMIG in the processes aimed atidentification of the best technical conditions for the implementation of strategic choices in favor of certainty of energy supply and for the possible reuse of infrastructure and mining sites, a collaboration that is even more important in the future in relation to the need to implement the path to 2030 to anticipate and manage the transition of the energy system".

"The history of UNMIG starts from afar" - recalled Pietro Cavanna, president of Assomineraria (Hydrocarbons and geothermal sector) - "and in this strong rooting lies its strength in representing a point of reference for all operators and institutions, including public and non-profit organizations existing in various areas with an industrial vocation, which today are determined to promote education and professional training in the most innovative areas of the energy industry”.
