Enel, new solar park in Brazil

Enel's position in Brazil is further strengthened: through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil Participações, the Italian energy company has started work on the construction of the Lapa solar park, located in Bom Jesus da Lapa, in the state of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil.

The solar park is consisting of two plants: Bom Jesus da Lapa 80 MW and Lapa 78 MW. Once completed, the two plants, with a total installed capacity of 158 MW, will be able to generate around 340 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual consumption needs of more than 160 Brazilian families, thus avoiding the emission of almost 198 thousand tons of CO2.

The creation of the park, whose entry into operation is expected in the second half of 2017, will require a total investment of approximately 175 million US dollars. The project is supported by a twenty-year agreement for the sale of specific volumes of energy produced (PPA) with the Electricity Chamber of Commerce (CCEE – Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica).

The Lapa solar park will be built in an area with high levels of solar radiation and will make a significant contribution to meeting the demand for new energy generation in Brazil.

The Enel Group was awarded this project, together with Horizonte MP (103 MW) and Nova Olinda (292 MW) in the context of the public tender “Leilão de Reserva” which took place in August 2015 and which made the Group the main player in the Brazilian solar sector in terms of installed capacity and projects in portfolio.

In the state of Bahia Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil, it is also building the 254 MW Ituverava plant, Enel's largest solar park currently under construction, as well as the 180 MW Delfina wind project. In the same state, EGPB also manages 264 MW of wind capacity and has won public tenders for an additional 172 MW of wind and 103 MW of PV.

The Brazilian renewables company of the Enel group currently has a total installed capacity of 506 MW, of which 401 MW from wind, 12 MW from solar and 93 MW from hydro. In addition, the company has projects underway for 442 MW of wind, 102 MW of hydro and 807 MW of solar. Last November Enel Green Power Brasil also obtained a concession for the management of two hydroelectric plants with a total installed capacity of 40 MW.
