Enel Green Power awarded wind farms in South Africa

Enel Green Power has been awarded the right to power supply contracts with South African utility Eskom for 425 MW of wind projects in the fourth phase of the REIPPPP tender (Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program) for renewable energies, promoted by the South African Government.

In line with the REIPPPP program rules, Enel GP participated in the tender with vehicle companies, holding a majority stake, in partnership with important local players. The three wind projects Oyster Bay (142 MW), Nxuba (141 MW) and Karusa (142 MW) will be built in the provinces of Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, in areas that offer a significant availability of wind resources.

I Oyster Bay and Nxuba projects will be completed and will enter into operation in 2017, while the Karusa one in 2018. As soon as they become operational, the three projects, which require a total investment of around 500 million euros, will be able to generate around 1.560 GWh per year, giving an important contribution to the country's growing demand for energy, in an environmentally sustainable way.

The investment is in line with Enel Green Power's strategic growth objectives envisaged in the Company's current business plan. The new plants will add to the 10 MW photovoltaic plant that Enel GP already has in operation in the country at Upington (Northern Cape) and to the 513 MW of projects that the company was awarded in the third phase of the REIPPPP tender.
