Air traffic is growing in Italy. The report reveals it ENAC 2014 presented today, according to which, after a period of contraction, the sector experienced a recovery in 2014, with a 4,7% increase in passengers compared to 2013 in the 45 national airports considered, with movements up by 1%.
The cargo sector also grew, registering an increase of 7,1%, while the port of Roma Fiumicino, which experienced an increase of 6,54% on an annual basis reaching up to 35,9 million passengers, confirmed itself as the leading airport in Italy, followed by Malpensa (+5% to 17,7 million) and Linate (+ 0,01%).
Among the companies, however, it is Ryanair to win the national record, with 26,1 million passengers. Allitalia follows with 23,3 million and Easyjet with 13,3 million. The Catania-Rome Fiumicino route emerges as the one with the most passengers, with over 944 passengers, followed by Rome Fiumicino-Catania (over 917 passengers) and Palermo-Rome Fiumicino (almost 741 passengers). “We are interested in developing long-haul vehicles, not buses”, commented the CEO. of Alitalia, Silvano Cassano.
As regards the planning of infrastructural interventions at the airports, in 2014 ENAC concluded over 120 preliminary procedures for a total amount of works to be carried out equal to around 700 million euros.
