Covid emergency. MiBACT: 9 billion already earmarked for Culture and Tourism

"To deal with the pandemic crisis, this year alone we have reached 9 billion euros for the culture and tourism sectors". This was stated by the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and for Tourism, Dario Franceschini, during his speech at the presentation of the annual Federculture report, held remotely on November 3rd.

“This crisis – the Minister continued – has made it clear how crucial investment in culture is in Italy, how sadder cities are with closed theatres, cinemas, bookshops and places of culture. This has allowed us to have important resources to deal with the emergency and to introduce social safety nets that these sectors had never had, such as layoffs and special allowances of 600 euros first and 1.000 euros later for intermittent and seasonal workers".

“In this way – added Franceschini – it was possible to accurately map the professionalism of the various sectors of culture and entertainment, bringing out their enormity. The discovery of the significant potential of online cultural offerings - the Minister said - should then be seized as an opportunity. Up to now it has been intelligently offered free of charge to favor the permanence of public contact with cultural heritage, but in the future it will be able to integrate the cultural offer in the presence to the full advantage of a wider fruition of a cultural product. Now – concluded the Minister – we must help cultural enterprises to cross the desert. It is important to work to govern the growth of cultural consumption which will return stronger than before at the end of the pandemic, as can already be seen from some signs including the recovery of the book recorded in recent months".
