E.ON continues on its path of consolidation in the renewable energy sector in Europe, confirming the decision to invest in the new Rampion offshore wind farm, in the United Kingdom with a total investment of approximately 1,9 billion euros. The UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) has also purchased a €327 million stake in the project.
The park will be located in the English Channel, 13km off the Sussex coast, south of Brighton. The facility will have a capacity of 400 megawatts of electricity and is expected to generate 1.300 GWh of energy from renewable sources per year, capable of powering up to 300.000 homes and reducing CO emissions2 up to 600.000 tons per year. The project consists of 116 wind turbines of 3,45 megawatts each.
Mike Winkel, member of the Board of Management of E.ON commented: “Our Rampion project starts from a position of strength. Technically the project is an optimized evolution of our four most recent offshore wind projects. We rely on proven technology and installation processes. With these assumptions E.ON intends to demonstrate its high skills which have been perfected thanks to the construction and commissioning of offshore wind farms”.
