Unemployment, Inps: applications grow in March (+8.7%) and Cig applications boom (+21.6%)

INPS publishes data on labour: in March unemployment applications increase (+8.7%) and mobility applications decrease (-5.1%) - Boom in requests for layoffs by companies - The economic data, however, is within the norm

Unemployment, Inps: applications grow in March (+8.7%) and Cig applications boom (+21.6%)

Unemployment applications continue to grow, with 80.693 applications presented in February, i.e. an increase of 8,7% compared to February 2011. This was communicated by INPS, which also reports a drop in mobility applications, which went from 8.376 to February 2011 to 7.951 in February 2012 (-5,1%).

But the real boom concerns requests for layoffs by companies. In March, a 21,6% increase was recorded on a monthly basis, which is equivalent to a number of hours for the month of March equal to 99,7 million. While on an annual basis the authorized hours are down by -1,8%.

Overall, in the first 3 months of the year it reached 236,6 million, against 231,8 million in 2011 (+2,1%). Compared to the trend figure, the economic figure respects the trend of recent years, which sees layoffs increase in March compared to the previous month

The president of INPS Antonio Mastropasqua comments on the first three months of the current year as follows: “2012 is confirmed in these first months as a year of discontinuity: the economic trend reflects that of the recent years in which the crisis ; Cig requests in March are down slightly compared to last year, while in the period, the first three months of the year, a trend of the opposite sign is recorded”.
