Roberto Cravero has left his position as mayor effective Parmalat. The resignation will be effective starting from the assembly of 14 June, which should have expressed itself precisely on the confirmation of him or not of him. Cravero had been suspended by the Court of Parma as part of the measures taken to ensure the company's interest in the acquisition of Lag from Lactalis. Among the items on the agenda of Friday's meeting there is also the decision on whether or not to replace councilor Antonio Sala, also suspended by the Court.
In the letter of resignation Cravero defended his work and that of the board of statutory auditors, "inspired by the utmost professionalism and correctness, in full compliance with the tasks, roles and functions of the supervisory body". He stated that he wanted to respect, however, despite the fact that he judges it profoundly unfair, the spirit of the provision of the Court of Parma.
On October 18 the Court of Appeal of Bologna will examine the Cravero's appeal against the Court's decree which accused the board of statutory auditors in office at the time of the Lag operation of having failed in its supervisory duties, allowing a series of serious irregularities. The Parma judges, with regard to the purchase of Lactalis USA by Parmalat (costing 904 million dollars compared to an initial estimate by Mediobanca of 726-838 million) in fact considered the suspicion "founded" that the the operation "was the result of a directive emanating from Lactalis through ways other than the official ones, programmatically harmful to Parmalat". A clear position that taken by the Court which in the meantime has appointed an ad acta commissioner to monitor the adjustment of the price of Lag.
