Covid, Italy becomes a high-risk area for Germany

New rules for those wishing to enter Germany from a high-risk area - 10-day quarantine at their own expense for no-vaxes or those who have not completed the vaccination cycle

Covid, Italy becomes a high-risk area for Germany

The Omicron variant hit theItaly and Germany runs for cover. For the Germans our country, together with Canada, Malta e San Marino depict between the areas considered ad high covid risk. From 1 January 2022, anyone entering Germany from one of these countries will have to observe a period of quarantine for at least 10 days, all at their own expense. Unless the subject has completed the vaccination cycle or has recovered no more than 6 months before, but they must send (before entry) to the competent health authorities documentation certifying their status. The quarantine can be stopped no earlier than the fifth day upon presentation of a test with a negative result. Even children under 12 will have to observe a quarantine but of 5 days and which they can finish without carrying out a control test.

Not even a month has passed since former German Chancellor Angel Merkel "envied" the Covid situation in our country. And instead, since that December 3, things have changed a lot: almost 100 thousand infections on December 29, however, compared to over a million tampons. But the vaccination campaign continues, as well as the new rules of quarantine to avoid paralysis in the country and the new no-vax tightening with the extension of the strengthened green pass for other activities and services.

Ma what needs to be done to enter Germany? In general, anyone who has traveled to an area considered "at risk" in the 10 days prior to entering Germany must complete the Digital Registration for their entry (only possible in the 5 days immediately preceding). Children under 6 must also be registered.

Germany distinguishes two types of “risk areas”: areas where the incidence rate is particularly high (“high risk areas”) where the speed of spread of the virus, the pressure on hospitals or the lack of data on the Covid situation is also included in the assessment; and “areas in which the new variants of the virus are widespread (“variant risk areas”). Depending on which areas you have been to in the 10 days before entering Germany, different rules apply.

The classification as high risk area it is automatically accompanied by a travel notice from the Federal Foreign Office. This makes it easier for tourists to cancel trips already booked for free, but does not in fact imply a ban. And the above measures apply.

While in the case of areas with new virus variants respect the restrictions are much more stringent than the high-risk ones. Airlines are only allowed to carry German citizens or people living in Germany from these countries. This rule also applies to rail or naval traffic. For those arriving from these areas, the quarantine period rises to 2 weeks and cannot be shortened with negative tests, this also applies to those who have been vaccinated and recovered.

Meanwhile in Austria an attempt is made to push the vaccination campaign and an evaluation is made for those who receive the anti-Covid booster dose. In Austria, 70,6% of the population is currently vaccinated. The bonus could take effect on February 1 with the vaccination obligation coming into force.
