Telecom Italia continues its commitment to the fight against the coronavirus. The TLC has recently promoted an action to support, through technology, to deaf patients hospitalized in solitary confinement at around 75 hospitals in 11 regions of the country (Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Puglia, Sicily and Veneto), affected by Covid-19 and other related pathologies. In particular, on over 1.000 devices (tablets and mobile phones) distributed to the hospitals involved which at least 110 Covid wards belong to, a link with an icon associated the site, with instructions for the LIS (Italian Sign Language) interpreting service.
The distribution of the devices foresees also the provision of free SIM traffic. Throughout the emergency period, the initiative will guarantee deaf people admitted to the hospital the possibility of communicating effectively through a LIS interpreting service with medical and paramedical staff, but also in the event of an emergency with their loved ones outside of health facilities. The dedicated ENS Covid-19 service will be used, which will guarantee the usability and accessibility of the service for users. The activity between Tim and ENS, in cooperation with the Tim Foundation, is part of the "Operation Digital Risorgimento" project whose mission is to accelerate the country's digitization process also through social activities and in favor of those in need.
The voluntary commitment of people with deafness who work for Tim was also dedicated to the activities carried out. In distributed devices, the will also be made available later App developed by Pedius which allows you to make calls, in real time and 24/7, by converting written text into speech and vice versa, with unlimited free use for the deaf in this Covid-19 emergency period.
