Court of Auditors: “Tax amnesty? He has his reasons. But uncertain outcome

The tax amnesty "has its reasons" and these are reasons that are "intuitive and well-founded": that is, "the deflation of the dispute" and the possibility "of quickly realizing revenues that can hardly be realised". This was stated by the Attorney General of the Court of Auditors, Salvatore Nottola, in the press conference at the end of the inauguration ceremony of the judicial year. "Whether it works or not - he added - depends on the application of the laws".

The prosecutor, emphasizing that he did not want to enter into the merits of the political debate, nevertheless added that there are also "pathological" effects in the legislation on amnesties. As for the building amnesty, "it is another matter and it should really be avoided".

However, Nottola refused to express himself explicitly on the new proposal for burial amnesty made by Pdl leader Silvio Berlusconi in view of the next elections: "I cannot answer - he said - because saying what I think about burial amnesty means saying what I think about politics and the government and I absolutely cannot intervene on this. As a magistrate, I am responsible for enforcing the laws”.
