Confcommercio, consumption: 2012 the most difficult year since the post-war period

2012 was the most difficult year for consumption after World War II. It supports it Confcommercio, underlining that its consumption indicator recorded a 2,9% year-on-year decline for November and a 0,1% decline from the previous month.
The data relating to the first 11 months “show quite clearly – notes Confcommercio – how 2012 is starting to be remembered as the most difficult year for consumption after the Second World War. The reduction is, in fact, the highest recorded since the beginning of the historical series”.

According to the association, “the persistence of negative economic dynamics even in the final months of the year continues to signal, together with the other economic indicators, how the crisis is still very present within the economic system. Our economy, and consumption in particular, will hardly begin to show signs of a significant improvement in the short term”.

The trend dynamics of the consumption indicator for November reflects a 3,6% decrease in the demand for services and a 2,7% decrease in the expenditure for goods. In a context that recorded a heavy reduction in the quantities purchased by households for almost all goods and services compared to the same month of 2011, the only segment that continues to show a positive dynamic in the trend comparison is that relating to goods and to communications services.
