How the Internet is changing: the over 55s land on the web

The map of the web in Italy is changing, no longer the exclusive domain of young and very young people, but, as the January Audiweb data certifies, more and more land of conquest of the over 55s, which register an annual growth of 17% for men and 22% for women.

An impetuous increase, which changes the demographics of the network and which moves Italy increasingly (albeit with a certain delay compared to other countries) in the direction desired by the European Union, that of total coverage of the territory by 2020.

According to Audiweb data, looking at numbers alone, in the month of gIn January, 29,6 million (+7% year on year) users connected to the Internet at least oncefrom your home or office PC.

The number of active users on an average day grew by 10,2%, reaching 15 million and remaining on the net, on average, for one hour and twenty-eight minutes a day. The most represented age range, even if the data does not take into account the mobile connection, is between 35 and 54 years old.

But the real news, as anticipated, is represented by the presence of women online, which rose from 6 million in January 2012 to 6,7 million in 2013, up by 11%. The segment of the over 55s, as mentioned, marks a 22% increase, even if, on Italian social networks (a rare case in the world) the presence of men is still stronger than of women.
