Second edition "Because of Many Suns", the Acquisition Award of Taurisano Collection, one of the major Italian collections of contemporary art

Taurisano Collection: 2nd Edition of the Prize for Contemporary Art

The winner, whose name will be announced on August 25, 2022, will be selected among the proposals of the galleries participating in the international art fair Art-o-rama of Marseille

The choice to join the Art-o-rama fair in Marseille was dictated by the rigor and attention with which it conducts the work of selecting the participating galleries: its intimate format and the quality of the curatorship make it a unique event.

Last year the jury singled out the following works: the printed banner “Giving Space to Confusion” (2017) by the Catalan artist Anna Dot, presented by Bombon projects (Barcelona); the sound piece “Blush Response” (2021) by the South African artist Mary Hurrell, presented by Nicoletti (London). From very different perspectives, both works explore the notion of language as a tool of communication or manipulation.

Established during the first lockdown of 2020, "Because of Many Suns" then had a double meaning: support artists and their galleries in a particularly delicate situation for the art sector and to create a shared space for reflection.

The title of the award was conceived by the transdisciplinary art collective Apparatus 22 taking it from “Suprainfinit (hymn n.3)”, a poem in which the collective reflects on the concepts of generosity, care and vitality intensified to a “superinfinite” level.

In 2017, some forty years and 200 works later, it is Francesco Taurisano, son of Paolo, to collect the inheritance together with his wife Swabian D'Antonio (which today have respectively And 38 32 years) giving life to a "new course" of the Collection, the result of the experiences gained around the world looking – in great museums as in artist studies, in international fairs as in small galleries – of the most significant works and the most talented artists of our time.

The Collection of Francesco and Sveva it numbers over 400, of which about 60% signed by female artists – and to focus on living, international artists, who in many cases deal with issues related to current events.

Born with them a collecting 3.0, a collectible planet, in which the collector's role is no longer that of mere owner but of "guardian" of the works of art, as they like to define themselves.

Francesco and Sveva are assisted by a team that supports them in the different activities of enhancement of the works: loans to major museums of the world, such as the Trondheim Kunsthall in Norway, the Madre Museum in Naples and Appleton in Lisbon; a periodic refurbishment of the works exhibited in their home in Naples which becomes a real exhibition venue. The “Because of Many Suns” Acquisition Award in which a work selected by an international jury is acquired to be donated to a public institution.
