Colao (Vodafone): "Telecom, a return monopoly"

“In Italy there is the problem of competition: every now and then the bacterium of a returning neo-monopoly starts to circulate”. To say it is the CEO of Vodafone GROUP Vittorio Colao, talking about the situation of the company, and of the network, in our country during an interview given to La Repubblica.

The reference to is very clear Telecom Italy, with which Vodafone has had some clashes in the recent past, above all on development models, even if Colao, who confirms the telephone company's large investments in ultra-broadband, applauds the work of the Italian Antitrust, which "has shown that it cares both the development of networks and that of competition".

In Italy, Colao continues, "if we want to avoid that fiber is only for the rich, we must mutualise the system" and "make sure that a system reaches the entire population". In any case, according to the CEO of Vodagone, "the Italian government is progressing well" on the digitization of the country: "we need to intervene on the legal and administrative structure and make everyone understand the importance of the web".

As for Europe, Colao's position is clear: "If it were really one, with a single legal and regulatory system, there would be room for four players". The ambition of the CEO of Vodafone is clearly that his company is one of them.
