Cyprus: aid released, the EU contribution does not change. Yellow on the request for assistance

“The contribution to the aid plan for Cyprus does not change”. Thus the commissioner for economic affairs Olli Rehn replied to the figures that appeared in the press, on the new financial needs of Cyprus, explaining that the 23 billion instead of the 17 should be considered a gross compared to the expected net. In detail, in addition to the seven already collected by Cyprus, it is about 10 billion euros disbursed, 1 billion from the IMF and 9 billion from the EU. Money on which the release by the Dublin Eurogroup arrived today and, after national procedures, aid should begin to flow into Cypriot coffers by May.
But the management of the Cyrpo situation continues to travel in the name of chaos. In fact, the case broke out during the day on the "additional aid" that Cyprus has requested from the EU. Nicos Anastasiades, president of Cyprus, in fact anticipated his intention to ask for new aid from Europe: "The letter to Barroso and Van Rompuy will refer to the need for a change in EU policy towards Cyprus to give us additional assistance, due to the critical situation we are going through for the crisis and for the measures that have been imposed on us,” the president said. But after a while the clarification arrived: Cyprus is asking for a faster use of European funds and not more money compared to the ten billion.
As if that were not enough, tensions are also rising with the governor of the ECB Mario Draghi who in a letter to Cyprus has more respect for the central bank in the face of pressure for the removal of the Cypriot governor Panicos Demetriades: "the independence of the central bank - has said Draghi – of the central banks of the euro area, is enshrined in the Treaty”.
