China, Xi Jinping at the helm of the country

Xi Jinping was officially named at the head of the Communist party and the Chinese Central Military Commission. He takes over from Hu Jintao and in March he will also succeed him as president of the Republic

The nomination comes directly from 18th Party Congress, which ended yesterday. They pass from nine to seven members of the Standing Committee. In addition to Xi Jinping, the men who will govern China for the next 10 years are those expected on the eve: Li Keqiang (indicated as number two in the Party and probably the new head of government since March), Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli.

Speaking with reporters, Xi Jinping underlined the importance of fighting corruption within the Party and repeatedly referred to China's "unity of all ethnic groups", as the need to carry on the policy of " openness and reforms”.
