With 193 countries in the world to choose from, with the most diverse lifestyles and cultures, finding the perfect place to move to can be difficult.
Blacktower Financial Management Group, founded in 1986 to provide wealth management consultancy, has developed a ranking of the best and worst countries for expats using data such as World happiness ranking, average monthly net salary, cost of living, price of real estate in relation to income, quality of health care, global peace level.
What emerges is a picture in which Switzerland and almost all the countries of northern Europe stand out among the top five, while at the bottom of the rankings are Portugal, Costa Rica, Slovenia and, unfortunately, Italy which evidently it does not offer sufficient appeal especially to the younger generations.
Undoubtedly, moving to a new country can bring a number of challenging, exciting and life changing experiences, but it also poses a great challenge. Many people choose to leave Italy to look for work (especially young people) or in any case for a new life abroad, says the report. And in any case, in the database of Aire (the agency in which Italians residing abroad are registered) there are 5 million Italians who have gone to live permanently across the border.
Switzerland in the lead, together with the Nordic states
The number one country for expats is la Switzerland – with a high average monthly salary and a strong property price-to-income ratio, making it a great option for anyone looking for a new country to settle in.
Even the Nordic states top ten, with Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Finland all making the top ten – just dealing with the cold weather at this point.
England comes in 18th place, even if it appears to be one of the favorite nations of fellow expats, with a total of almost half a million Italians currently registered in Aire according to a recent study by the Consulate of Italy in London.
Italy is at the bottom of the list, together with Portugal and Spain
The beautiful country does not emerge victorious. Hot countries like Italy, Spain and Portugal they are respectively at the 27th, 25th and last place of the ranking elaborated by Blacktower. Wonderful states to visit for tourism – suggests the consultancy firm – but not recommended for starting a new life.
