Brexit, aut aut of the EU: "Plan within 12 days or it's all over"

The current president of the European Union, Antii Ritte, in agreement with Macron, issues a real ultimatum to Johnson who, however, falls deaf ears: "The proposals will be made in due time".

Brexit, aut aut of the EU: "Plan within 12 days or it's all over"

On Brexit, the European Union has lost patience. Or at least this is what transpires from the words of the Finnish premier, Antti Rinne, who currently holds the office of rotating president of the EU.

Rinne, quoted by the BBC said that if British Prime Minister Boris Johnson fails to present a written proposal on the UK's exit from the European Union within 12 days "it's all over". The line, he added, would have already been agreed with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who in the past had already proved to be among the most intransigent leaders towards the United Kingdom.

However, the times dictated by Rinne (and Macron) do not seem to coincide with those foreseen by Johnson, who in recent days has repeatedly stated that theThe Brexit node will be resolved on 17 October during the EU summit already scheduled. The deadline, we remind you, falls just 13 days from October 31, the date set for Brexit with or without an agreement.

It is no coincidence that Downing Street let the BBC know that the London proposals will reach Brussels "in due time".

“We will present formal written solutions when we're ready, not on an artificial deadline“, the British government spokesman told reporters. "In recent weeks we have had detailed discussions with the EU and the European Commission" added the spokesman and "we have now shared in written form a series of confidential technical working documents that reflect the ideas that the United Kingdom has advanced".

According to Johnson, talks with the Union are making progress especially on the now famous backstop (the agreement that will have to avoid building a physical border between Ireland and Northern Ireland). The United Kingdom has allegedly presented alternative proposals to those contained in the plan agreed by Theresa May and rejected three times by the London Parliament. It is a pity that the EU, at the moment, claims it knows nothing about it and continues to wait for concrete initiatives.
