Stock Exchange, Consob sinks Banca Carige

The Stock Exchange week for the title could not start as worse Carige, which in the middle of the morning sinks by more than eight percentage points, to 0,0637 euros. Sales on the stock are linked to the decision of the Consob to challenge the balance sheet of the Ligurian Bank. The Commission will take the bank to court to order the annulment of the resolution approving the 2013 budget, but in reality it is aiming its sights at the 2012 financial year, closed by Giovanni Berneschi, the bank's former number one arrested last year and at the center of an investigation by the Genoa prosecutor's office.

Consob served Carige "a writ of summons by means of which civil proceedings were instituted before the court of Genoa - writes the Bank - concerning the request for a declaration of nullity or annulment of the shareholders' resolution of 30 April 2014 approval of the financial statements of the bank as at 31 December 2013 for alleged non-compliance of the aforementioned financial statements with the rules governing their preparation and in particular with the IAS 1, 8 and 36 accounting standards, as well as the verification of the non-compliance of the consolidated financial statements with aforementioned accounting principles”.

In January 2014 Consob had formulated observations on the recalculation of the values of the goodwill and equity investments of the banking and insurance subsidiaries for the 2013 financial year but, according to the Commission, the transposition of these observations in the bank's accounts did not take place correctly. Carige defends the correctness of its actions by emphasizing that it has already made significant adjustments to goodwill and equity investments in the accounts as at 30 September 2013.
