TV bonus: requirements, amount and how to request it

Le digital terrestrial frequencies they are already changing and the tv bonus could be a hypothesis to consider.

In fact, the time has come to think about what to do with our television. Get a new one or adapt a suitable decoder? Spending varies, and by a lot, based on the choice we decide to make and the TV bonus could contribute, at least to a small extent, to offsetting the amount we will spend. To decide we only have a year to go because the new transmission standard will start on June 30, 2022. If we haven't organized ourselves by that date, we won't be able to see anything anymore.

THE NEW DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL

In the middle of next year, Italy will switch to the new DVB-T2/HEVC technology from the current DVB T1 standard. A necessary change to encourage the development of 5G. The transition has already begun and will end on June 30, 2022. The standard will change, but the frequencies will also change, which means that those who do not have a television capable of transmitting the new signal will no longer be able to watch what they want. The passage is mandatory.

There are many Italians who, enticed by change, have already bought a new television and there will be more and more in the coming months. For this reason, those who intend to take advantage of the TV bonus prepared by the previous government better start looking around.

BONUS TV: WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT WORKS

This is an incentive for families aimed at "promoting the renewal or replacement of the set of devices not suitable for receiving programs with new technologies". To finance the TV bonus, the Government has allocated 150 million euros, available until 31 December 2022. Be careful though, because for the moment no refinancing is envisaged, which means that when the established resources run out, it will no longer be possible to access the bonuses. Translated into simple words: those who intend to use it must act quickly.

TV BONUS: AMOUNT AND REQUIREMENTS

Each family will have up to 50 euros available. Money that can be used to purchase a new television, a decoder capable of receiving the new signal or a decoder for satellite reception. You can take advantage of the discount to buy a single device. So if you have two televisions, the entire amount for the second will be paid by the household.

We recall that on 17 March, the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti invited the Chamber to undertake "a reflection on the opportunity to strengthen the incentive for the adaptation of household television sets". So it is possible that news will arrive in the coming months.

Families with an ISEE (Indicator of the Equivalent Economic Situation) of up to 20 euros can apply for the incentive.

TV BONUS: HOW TO REQUEST IT

The TV bonus is paid in the form of a discount on the purchase price applied directly by the seller. To take advantage of it, go to a retailer who has decided to join the initiative (joining is voluntary) and submit the appropriate request (here is the form). There are three conditions: being resident in Italy, having an ISEE not exceeding 20 thousand euros, declaring that the other members of the family have not already benefited from the bonus. The data collected will be processed in accordance with the privacy legislation (EU Regulation 2016/679 and Legislative Decree 196/2003 and subsequent amendments).

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR TV MEETS THE STANDARDS

The Ministry of Economic Development has made available a list of “eligible” products. In any case, to find out if the television (or decoder) you have at home or if the one you intend to buy is compatible with the new technology, you need to check if there is the wording DVB T2 or H265/HEVC on the back of the device. Alternatively, you can tune into channel 100 (Rai test) or 200 (Mediaset test) and see if the wording "Test HEVC Main10" appears on the screen. If there is, it means that the TV will receive the new signal.
