Baby bonus 2017, who gets it: requirements and rules

Not to be confused with the mom tomorrow bonus, the baby bonus ensures 80 (or 160) euros per month for each child from or adopted between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2017: here's how to apply and how it works

Baby bonus 2017, who gets it: requirements and rules

The 2017 baby bonus follows the same rules already in force in 2015 and 2016. It is a check paid by INPS to families in economic difficulty. Not to be confused with mom bonus tomorrow, which is new this year and is based on completely different criteria, nor with the other measures included in the family package oflatest budget law. The picture of benefits is quite complex, so we try to put things in order by clarifying the main features of the baby bonus: what it is, who it belongs to (the requirements are different) and how it works.

1. WHAT IS THE 2017 BABY BONUS?

The baby bonus – which in the language of the INPS is called a "birth allowance" – is a contribution of 80 or 160 euros per month (see point 3) paid by the INPS until the child turns three or until end of the third year from the time of adoption.

2. WHO WILL GET THE 2017 BABY BONUS?

There are two requirements for the family nucleus:

I) The 2017 baby bonus is available to families who have a child (or adopt one) between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2017.

II) At the same time, the family's annual ISEE must not exceed 25 euros.

In addition, the parent applying for the 2017 baby bonus must meet three other requirements:

I) Be a citizen of Italy or of another state of the European Union.

II) Be resident in Italy.

III) Living with the son.

3. HOW MUCH IS THE 2017 BABY BONUS?

There are two possibilities:

I) 80 euros per month for 12 months (960 euros a year) for families with an annual Isee between 7 thousand and 25 thousand euros.

II) 160 euros for 12 months (1.920 euros a year) for families with an annual ISEE of less than 7 thousand euros.

4. HOW IS THE APPLICATION SUBMITTED?

To apply for the 2017 baby bonus, the equivalent economic situation indicator (Isee) is required, the value that certifies the economic conditions of those requesting subsidized social benefits.

Even those who have recently calculated the ISEE must renew it, because for the purposes of the baby bonus an updated indicator is required that takes into account the new child.

To obtain the Isee 2017 value, you need to submit the single self-declaration (Dsu), a document that contains the personal data, income and assets of the family unit. Some of these data are self-declared by the taxpayer, while others are acquired by INPS and the Revenue Agency.

Once the Dsu has been presented, you can move on to the application for the 2017 baby bonus, which must be sent to INPS exclusively electronically (once only for each child) through one of the following channels:

– web: by accessing thereserved area of the INPS website with the personal Pin code;

– integrated Inps-Inail contact center at the telephone number 803.164 from a landline (free of charge) or on 06.164.164 from a mobile network (costs vary according to the operator and rate plan);

– telematic services offered by patronage bodies.

The application must be submitted within 90 days of the birth of the child or of the date of entry of the minor into the family unit.

5. HOW (AND FROM WHEN) DO YOU RECEIVE THE 2017 BABY BONUS?

The allowance is due from the month of birth or adoption of the child. Inps makes the payment according to the method that the parent has indicated in the application (bank transfer, credit to bank or postal current account, postal book or prepaid card with Iban). The chosen means of payment must be made out to the parent who requested the baby bonus.

    1. Good morning Joseph. For children born between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2017, the baby bonus lasts until the child's third birthday, provided that the requirements are met and INPS accepts the application. We advise you to contact INPS for more precise information on your particular case. A greeting.

    1. Good evening ma'am, sorry for the delay. Based on the information you have given us, we unfortunately believe that you may not be eligible for the bonus. However, the matter is complex and there are various possibilities (for example, if the child's father had EU citizenship, he could be the one to request the bonus). We advise you to contact INPS to be sure that you have evaluated all the details. Happy New Year.
